Books for the mind, body, and that galaxy far, far away

Happy (Canadian) Boxing Day and Kwanzaa everybody!

How are you holidays so far? You open your presents with Ahhhh’s and Ohhh’s and avoided those potentially heated conversations with your family members? Stuffed to the brim with chocolate, cookies, and whatever else you promised yourself you’d give up in about five days?

Well, I’ve got a treat for you. I’ve got a bag full of goodies that won’t increase your waistline or cause you to want to punch your politically opposing sibling in the face.Plus, some amazing book recommendations on which to use those Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift cards.img_4622

One of my favorite books this year is by none other than script doctor, mental health advocate, and pop culture icon Carrie Fisher. As always, Ms. Fisher is brutally honest and hysterically funny and a wonderful read. Her book, The Princess Diarist shows many entries Carrie made while she journaled during the filming of the Star Wars movies. After seeing Rogue One yesterday, I have to say, these stories are amazingly funny, potent, and help bring about another layer of that galaxy far, far away.

Thinking you want to get your “to do list” in order? Pick up the Queen of Thursday night TV, Shonda Rhimes Year of Yes journal. It’s a beautifully organized book that helps you get some as semblance of your thoughts in a productive order. And while you’re at it, grab the book that started it, Year of Yes.

Looking to get your body back? Regain your health and wellness? Pick up Jasinda Wilder‘s Big Girls do it Running. This best-selling author and mother of six, chronicles her journey from morbid obesity to regaining her wellness. She offers honest, reasonable, and more than achievable steps to help all of us out here trying to figure out how to re-establish a healthier lifestyle with not only ourselves, but the people and world around us.

Now that you’ve got your laughs in along with regaining your mind and body, let’s talk fiction. With new releases by Teri Wilson, Willa Blair, Julia London, Laurie LeClair, and Karen Kinna will warm your heart and keep your winter nights saucy.
